As we head into the opening of the comic book movie season with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. To be sure, I am extremely excited for both the Avengers and The Dark Knight films that will be coming later this summer. The one movie that I have been surprisingly chill about has been Amazing Spider-Man. But now I am!
I just have not been interested in the movie, even the character is one favorite comic book characters. Spider-Man 3 really killed my interest in any more live-action Spider-Man films. But now that has all changed with the latest Amazing Spider-Man trailer that recently premiered. Now I am pumped for The Amazing Spider-Man to come out. Here are just 5 reasons why you should also be excited.
1. Spider-Man Fighting Like Spider-Man
From the get go we get to see Spider-Man displaying his acrobatic abilities in conjunction to his spider sense. As a big summer blockbuster we want to see a sample of how Spider-Man will be fighting in the movie and the trailer provides that. From fighting the Lizard to beating up criminals to even fighting the NYPD we see Spider-Man use all of his abilities throughout the trailer. They were all fast paced and looked like something we would see Spider-Man do in the comics. It should be fun to see how all of these action sequences will fully play out since we only got a bunch of brief spurts of the fights.
2. Peter Parker: The Scientist

Something that was missing from the original trilogy that The Amazing Spider-Man seems to get right is the fact that we will actually see Peter Parker’s science background actually play a role in the movie. From inventing the web shooters, instead of them being organic, to his growing relationship with Doc Connors we see Peter actually use his science background. For all of his amazing abilities it has always been the characters intelligence that has been able to get him through so many obstacles. It’s something that has been emphasized in the current Amazing Spider-Man comic and I am glad is being made a point of interest in the movie.
3. The Peter/Gwen Relationship
One of the things that I never bought into from the original trilogy was the relationship between Peter and MJ. It did not feel as organic as it did in the comics and always felt as though they were forcing the characters together in the movies. Which was too bad, because the evolution of the relationship is one of the things that makes Peter’s personal relationship relatable.
Thankfully, that is going to seemingly change in this reboot. The second trailer does a good job showing that Marc Webb will have Peter and Gwen’s relationship evolve during the course of the movie. This is a good thing because like bringing in Peter’s family history into the story the Peter/Gwen relationship adds that extra layer to what Peter does as Spider-Man. It’s especially the case when we see that Peter will be in conflict with not just Doctor Connors but the NYPD headed by Gwen’s father, Captain Stacy.
4. Spider-Man vs. New York City
This brings me to my next point and that it is the battle Spider-Man will have against not only the Lizard but also Capt. Stacy and the NYPD. The trailer quickly establishes that unlike the comics Capt. Stacy is not very fond of Spider-Man’s actions. This helps in replacing JJJ’s hatred for Spider-Man and gives us a different dynamic from what we get in comics between the two characters. It is made even more interesting with the fact that we do actually see Spider-Man unmasked at various points in the trailer leading to the question of who will find out his identity.
5. A Story About the Parker Family
As great as the relationship that Peter and Aunt May has been it is something that over the years from comics to TV shows to movies being already fully fleshed out. And to a point we have seen Peter and Uncle Ben’s relationship play out in different forms. What we haven’t seen much of is how Peter’s parents play into his life. Sure we have gotten a few stories in the comics that have brought Peter’s parents into the thick of things but it is a relationship that hasn’t been given a huge emphasis, at least for a while.
But now that is what we are getting as it looks like it will be Peter’s parents, specifically his dad Richard Parker, who will be the driving force for the events that happen. It should give the movie a much different tone than what we have already have had from the original Spider-Man trilogy. At least it will give us a much more personal battle when Peter battles Doctor Connors/The Lizard both as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Now I am still going to be tempering my level of excitement for The Amazing Spider-Man because there is still the sour taste of Spider-Man 3 in my mouth left over. But did this new trailer make it so I will be in line day one? Absolutely! Where I had absolutely no expectations for the latest Spider-Man film I am now looking forward to it.
