Now this is the type of week that as a comic book fan I love. Both Marvel and DC delivered a monster amount of highlights. This may be the biggest week of highlights we have had so far since I started this post. With Siege #4 being the big release for this week as Dark Reign ends and the Heroic Age begins. But DC did not stay quiet this week with the Return of Bruce Wayne being their big release for the week. Other highlights include the death of a DC legacy character, the Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk true identities finally revealed, the Green Goblin return, Superman vs. Supergirl, Wolverine cutting loose, and many more highlights. Hit the jump button to check out all the big highlights of this week in the world of comics.
COVER OF THE WEEK: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #1
How can you not love caveman Batman? Just looking at this cover you know you are in store for one entertaining read as Bruce Wayne travels through various periods of time and the pre-historic era is his first step. And hey it doesn't get better than Batman fighting an army of cavemen does it?
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #631
Well it looks like the shoe is on the other foot as Peter is stood up on a date by Carlie who is busy with her NCIS job. That must sound familiar to Peter.
Some wicked Spider-Man vs. Lizard art by Chris Bachelo who has been turning in his A-game for the "Shed" arc on Amazing Spider-Man.
BATGIRL #10
Looks like Batgirl is in big trouble as she faces down an army of people who only speak in binary code.
BATMAN #699
Guillem March artwork on Batman makes me wish that he was the permanent artist on this title as I prefer his artwork on Batman than I do on Gotham City Sirens. And this image of Batman hanging out in a tree that seems to be straight out of Wonderland perfectly shows why that is.
This is the best Firefly has ever looked.
BIRDS OF PREY #1
Black Canary takes a page from the latest Sherlock Holmes movie as she breaks the bones of this unlucky guy.
The White Canary makes her grand appearance by beating up Black Canary, Huntress and Penguin. My guess is that White Canary is either Sin or Cassandra Cain. I am hoping for the latter. Who do you guys think she is?
DARK AVENGERS #16
The son has to pick up his fathers mantle as Phobos becomes the new God of War. That is one mighty axe the kid has to carry.
All I got to say is that now that all this Dark Reign mess is over can we finally get a Green Goblin arc in Amazing Spider-Man. It has been far to long since we have had a good Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin arc.
FLASH #2
Flash acting like a real hero. So far Flash is the only title that actually feels like it deserves the Brightest Day banner, even more so than the Brightest Day main series.
Here is a question for all Flash fans: Does Barry remember everything he reads when using his superspeed like Bart does?
HULK #22
Thorlk vs Rulk: The Battle of Hulk Titans.
The Fantastic Hulk Three!
Spider-Hulk and Wolvie-Hulk now this is getting to much. As I said before; turning every Marvel hero into a Hulk feels like the end of comics to me. But hey it might just be me and my hate for Loeb.
Finally after fighting off all the Hulked out heroes Red Hulk's power was completely drained and it is revealed that the Red Hulk is none other than old Thunderbird Ross, Hulk's long-time nemesis.
INCREDIBLE HULK #609
A Hulk battle royale. The only one missing from this battle is Hulk Hogan.
So after Red Hulk turns out to be Thunderbird Ross it turns out that Red She-Hulk is his daughter and long-time Bruce Banner love interest Betty Ross. Who saw that coming?
NEW AVENGERS FINALE
And New Avengers ends with a happily ever after as they spend a day walking in the park after their big victory in Siege to end this volume of the series.
THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #1
Bruce Wayne emerges from the first Batcave after disappearing a year ago.
It looks like Bruce remembers his part of the Trinity even while he is lost in time. Now I wonder if Morrison is going to say is that Bruce is the originator of Wonder Woman and Superman's symbols.
Even in his dreams Bruce sees bats. He is obsessed with bats.
The first Batsuit! This is one that is not in the Batcave.
Ugh, so do I have to really read the Timemaster mini-series to get the story of this out of nowhere appearance by Booster Gold, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and Superman which is not explained whatsoever. That is just frustrating when tie-ins are actually cruicial to an event.
SIEGE #4
No one messes with Thor and Asgard as Void/Sentry learn as Thor finishes off Void for good, at least for now.
Finally the horriblenous that was Dark Reign and Siege is over. Now time for the Heroic Age to start. I can't wait.
THE MARVELS PROJECT #8
Epting understands how to create a sense of not only epicness but also a sense of movement within a spread which not many artist are able to do as they look for poster images with their splash and spread pages.
Captain America and Namor open a can of woop ass in WWII.
Captain America gets four in one-shot. Ah how a miss this image.
TITANS: VILLAINS FOR HIRE ONE-SHOT
I guess DC did get enough death in Blackest Night as they quickly kill off Ryan Choi. Now that is what I call using Brightest Day to its fullest..........NOT!
If killing Ryan Choi wasn't enough, Deathstroke delivers Ryan in a match box to the person who hired him to kill Ryan. So far Brightest Day feels like Dark Reign as it has not been a brighter time in the DC Universe.
ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #10
Now you know that had to hurt! Ouch!
Now you know that Kitty has been wanting to do that since Peter broke-up with her.
Now this is just a fantastic image of Kitty in the sewers. Great work David LaFuente.
WAR OF SUPERMEN #2
Looks like Superman and Supergirl have some issues to work out.
WOLVERINE #900
Wolverine kicks some ninja ass and he does not hold back. Why can't we see this Wolverine more often?
Did Spider-Man expect anything less from Wolverine when he got invited to go to a bar to get some drinks by Wolverine?
Well that's something you don't see everyday: Wolverine fighting a pack of wolves.

Comic Book Highlights of the Week
Comments
Is it just me or is Mike Deodato's art looking like Greg Horn? I saw that comment a while back and it really is. I hope this doesn't carry onto Secret Avengers.
Oh, god..the 2 Rulk reveals, I could write an entire article bitching about them. I knew it had to be Betty but Ross, ugh, me brain no work good no more.
On a side note about Betty possibly being killed (pretty please happen!)no one, absolutely NO ONE, is mentioning that Skaar called Bruce his father. Up until now he's always called him Banner. I think that was an awesome moment to show Skaar and Banner really are connecting.
Okay, that finale page to NA Finale is just...creepy. Look at Luke's face, it's like his teeth are trying to eat his cheeks.
After flipping through Return of Bruce Wayne I feel all right about now reading it.
Siege, oh god...I'm going to have a whole rant about Siege #4 in Week's End. Just so much to hate about it.
Ryan Choi is dead. Awesome. Maybe next we can uselessly kill off someone's grandma? I think comics needs more elderly slaughter.
Lafuente is easily the artist of the week, damn his stuff on Ultimate Spidey was great!
I kind of think that it is more the colorist that Deodato has working on that issue of Dark Avengers made it look like Greg Horn's artwork. From the previews up on IGN Deodato's artwork looks great and more on par with his usual work and not this issue.
I could really care less about the Rulk family. Sort of feels like a little to late of a reveal to me.
I actually had a couple problems with Return of Bruce Wayne when I read it again. I liked it on my first read through but when I went back and read it again I didn't like it as much.
I am just glad the whole Siege/Dark Reign mess is over and I am ready for Heroic Age to start next week.
You know something I am not to surprised with Ryan Choi's death because ever since Identity Crisis DC has been obsessed with death.
I love LaFuente's artwork. It gives Ultimate Comics Spider-Man its own distinct look from every other comic book on the stands which is very cool.
BIRDS OF PREY: Simone is one of the handful of writers who do not let me down.
DARK AVENGERS: So Thor gave a Godly Axe to someone who recently murdered a bunch of people at the White House. That is why it was so important for Norman Osborne to destroy Asgard. To save us from these idiots. Norman Osborne IS what people THINK Steve Rogers is. Will we ever see his like again?
FLASH: Egad! I almost didn't buy this. Everything Flash for the year has been the proverbial cure for insomnia, especially last issue, which i don’t even remember, it was so boring. Then Boom! This issue just knocks it out of the park. What happened?
THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE: Oh, I see what happened. DC botched it, and delivered the Boring to this book instead of the Flash by mistake.
ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN: Everything I could want in a rebooted Spider-man book. Screw VH1 Spider-Man over on Amazing. And the in-joke that it's written by the same incompetent who ruins the Avengers every month is too rich. Hysterical!
WAR OF SUPERMEN: Everyone know how this ends, right? With Superman floating over everyone, lecturing and wagging his finger at them.
WOLVERINE 900: Now this book is extraordinary. It's nearly every Wolverine cliché ever in one issue.
I look forward to reading this every week.
Thanks.
