I always wished there was a website where I could go that would offer fair and honest critiques and recommendations of current comic books. Unfortunately, I found that most websites were often unwilling to offer honest reviews of new comic books, due to their relationships with the various comic book publishers. Whether it be due to a financial relationship or the fear of losing out on getting advance solicits, preview materials and interview access to creative talent, most comic book websites offered reviews that were largely never critical at all of any current comic books.
And that is how Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution came about. I decided it would be fun to create a place where readers could come and get honest critiques of current comic books. I knew that opinions would obviously differ, but if the reviews were honest and well supported with facts and evidence, people would enjoy the reviews regardless if they agreed with them or not. Also, I wanted an outlet to discuss comic books, which have long been a passion of mine.
Therefore, Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution debuted on January 26, 2006 over on Blogger. At the time, it was just little old me posting as many reviews as I possibly could each week. Looking back on it, I am surprised I was able to post as many reviews as I did all by myself.
The first time Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution grew was when Shawn came aboard in April 14, 2006. Shawn offered more behind the scenes help with the blog than actual reviews. I continued to carry most of the burden of writing the reviews.
Of course, like anything, the time commitment required of keeping my little blog going began to be more of a burden to me than a source of stress relief and fun. I was at a crossroads and decided that it was either time to shut down Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution or expand and add a few more reviewers.
On April 20, 2009, Kevin joined Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution. I enjoyed Kevin’s work over on his blog, Comic Book Legacy, and thought his style of review would fit nicely with Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution.
Andrenn joined Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution the following month. I liked Andrenn’s work on his blog, New Age Comics With Andrenn. At the time, we did not review many Image titles, and Andrenn filled that gap due to his love of all things Image.
Finally, I decided that my little blog had grown past being just a little Blogger blog. It was time for our own website. It was time for Rokk’s Comic Book Revolution to simply be the Comic Book Revolution. And with that, The Revolution’s own website was born.
So, welcome to The Revolution. We hope you enjoy our reviews. We pride ourselves on being as honest and forthright in our critical reviews of the comic books currently on the market. I know people may not always agree with our reviews, which is perfectly fine. Hopefully, no matter what, readers will find our reviews informative and entertaining.
I want to thank all the longtime followers of The Revolution who supported my little blog back in the day when it was just me by my lonesome plugging away at reviewing comic books. I hope that The Revolution continues to grow and evolve. The Revoution shall certainly continue to do its best to service the comic book industry that we love so dearly.
